3rd Grade Sculpture Project - Donations and Volunteers Needed

Thanks to the generosity of our PTA and the Howard County Arts Council, our 3rd graders will be working with a professional visual artist during the month of November to create outdoor sculptures of recycled materials that interact with the weather, especially wind & rain.  
Sculpture Donations:
  • We are seeking donations of objects to be used in the recycled sculpture construction that will hold up outdoors.
  • Possible Items are…
    • wire, copper or PVC piping, cement board, copper or brass items, treated lumber, hard plastic or rubber objects such as inner tubes or pond liner, chicken wire, hub caps, silverware, beach glass or glass nuggets (with smooth edges), bird cages, metal trivets, metal coat hangers, metal rods or racks, old keys and tile.

Parent Volunteers:
  • We are looking for parent volunteers…
    • with construction knowledge/background who are willing to assist in building the sculpture bases. Please e-mail Mrs. Alger (salger@hcpss.org) if you are able to help!
    • to assist our visiting artist and the teachers working with our 3rd graders to create the outdoor sculptures. Parents may be assembling or passing out materials, assisting students and helping in other ways as determined by the artist and teachers.
  • Volunteer opportunities are as follows…
    • Monday through Thursday @ 11:20-1:05 from November 2nd through November 19th.
      • Parents are welcome to sign up for multiple sessions if desired.
