Picture Day is coming to Longfellow Elementary School on Friday, October 5, 2018. We have partnered with LifeTouch and students from all grades will be taking individual photographs. Is there an African American innovator who has had a significant impact on your life? All interested fifth grade students are welcome to sign up and join this great opportunity! Participants gather weekly to hone their research skills and learn more about black innovators in American history. Students will use primary sources, like letters, songs, interviews, pictures, and maps as well as newspaper articles, biographies, and much more to learn about our history. All Longfellow school volunteers and field trip chaperones are required to complete the HCPSS online volunteer training each school year. Once you have completed the training, please print and sign the certificate. As we prepare for the 2018-2019 school year, LoES is seeking support positions to assist and support our students during the school day. The first opportunity is for those interested in serving as lunch and recess monitors. The hours for lunch monitors will be approximately 10:15 am to 2:00 pm working with grades K through 5. The schedule is flexible, but applicants can work up to 5 days a week and the rate of pay is $10.50 per hour. The other opportunity is for a temporary employee position in our early childhood program. This position would be for 24.5 hours per week also at a rate of $10.50 per hour. Our 4th quarter Positive Behavior Intervention program celebration is going to be BINGO!! We are looking for donations of items that can be used as prizes for our bingo winners. Things such as posters, small bags, books, toys, stuffed animals, play dough, games and puzzles would be ideal! So, with that said, take a look around your garage and in that old bin that you aren't sure what it contains and send in any items you wish to donate with your child or drop them off in the front office. The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) will extend the 2017-2018 school year by two days to make up for inclement weather closings. The last day of school for students will now be Tuesday, June 19, 2018. Read more here.
