Support Positions Available for 2018-19 School Year

As we prepare for the 2018-2019 school year, LoES is seeking support positions to assist and support our students during the school day. The first opportunity is for those interested in serving as lunch and recess monitors. The hours for lunch monitors will be approximately 10:15 am to 2:00 pm working with grades K through 5. The schedule is flexible, but applicants can work up to 5 days a week and the rate of pay is $10.50 per hour. The other opportunity is for a temporary employee position in our early childhood program. This position would be for 24.5 hours per week also at a rate of $10.50 per hour. Seeking Bingo Prizes

Our 4th quarter Positive Behavior Intervention program celebration is going to be BINGO!! We are looking for donations of items that can be used as prizes for our bingo winners. Things such as posters, small bags, books, toys, stuffed animals, play dough, games and puzzles would be ideal! So, with that said, take a look around your garage and in that old bin that you aren't sure what it contains and send in any items you wish to donate with your child or drop them off in the front office. We ask that all items be brought in by June 4th. Thank you in advance!
School Year Extended Through Tuesday, June 19th

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) will extend the 2017-2018 school year by two days to make up for inclement weather closings. The last day of school for students will now be Tuesday, June 19, 2018. Read more here.

Longfellow (LoES) is a Schoolwide Title I School. Parent Involvement is an important part of Title I. LoES and Howard County Public Schools (HCPSS) value your input and partnership in supporting the academic success of your child. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey regarding school improvement, climate, and family engagement. This will be used to evaluate our Title I program so that we can better serve you. Your responses will be kept strictly confidential. Please complete the online survey by Friday, May 25, 2018.

Read-a-thon is underway!

In collaboration with our PTA, we kicked off our Read-a-thon on Wednesday, March 28th. Please review the Read-a-thon materials we sent home in your child's Wednesday folder. They include instructions, their reading tracker, and their pledge sheets. At our assembly we introduced the website 99Pledges where they each have their own link and web page. Please share the link to your child's page! To find your child's link go to:https://99pledges.com/fund/longfellowreads2018 When we return to school on Wednesday, April 4th we will celebrate the spring and our Read-a-thon with spirit days. Wednesday will be tie dye day. Thursday is dress as your favorite character from a book day. Friday is Beach Bum day. No flip flops or bathing suits, please. Be sure to bring your floral-print shirt, hat, and sunglasses.
Jump Rope for Heart Donations and Online Reports Due Now

Thank you parents for all your support of the American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart. The collection of funds ended on Friday, March 16th. After the tabulation of amounts and recording of gifts, the funds will be sent out. Gifts will arrive 4-6 weeks after that. Your children will receive their gifts during their PE classes. If you have not done so, please send Ms. Collins the online donation report (if you donated online), so your child can receive their gifts on time.
Kindess Week March 19-23

During the week of March 19th, LoES will engage in a school-wide Kindness Campaign. A description of activities for the week can be found below: Monday - Gratitude box (located in the front of the building) Tuesday - Kindness Circle in LoES Classrooms Wednesday - Hands Across LoES Classroom/Team Activity Thursday - Heart Day for LoES students and staff Friday - Hands Around Longfellow Additional information regarding our Kindness Campaign will be distributed in the coming weeks. In the meantime, families and members from the Longfellow community are invited to join us on Friday, March 23rd at 2:30 pm as we will come together in an effort to demonstrate solidarity by joining hands around our school building.
