Tue, 03/19/2019 - 4:58pmLongfellow's Makerfaire is coming on Thursday, March 21 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. Student maker projects will be on display. There will also be lots of projects to make and learn about at the Faire such as slingshot cars, plastic fusing, erupting paint, paper circuits, and zoetropes. Their work is included in the Howard County Second Grade Showcase of artwork in the Department of Education Gallery. The work will be on display through April 11. As a department, we are always looking for ways to improve our services and we value your voice. One way you can support our work is to complete The Maryland Special Education Parent Involvement Survey. We will utilize the results of this survey to develop action steps toward continuous improvement. You are valued partners and we look forward to receiving your input. Mon, 03/04/2019 - 10:19amParents/guardians of children who will be five as of September 1, 2019 must enroll their children in kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year. Parents may begin the enrollment process online, followed by completion of the registration process at your child’s school. Online registration is not required and parents may elect to complete the full registration in person. - you can review all of the details here.
Fri, 01/18/2019 - 10:31amThe Longfellow Regional Early Childhood Center (RECC) programs are making preparations for classes for the 2019-2020 school year. These classes include children with and without disabilities. The program’s focus is helping all children develop communication, literacy, math, problem solving, motor, and social skills. Parents of children who will be at least 3 years of age by September 1 may contact Cecilia Booth in the school office for an application package beginning February 15. All applications must be returned by the last Friday in March. A limited number of openings are available for children without disabilities. Children are selected based upon screening information given on the application form and the “Ages and Stages Questionnaire,” as well as observations of the child’s participation in a playgroup. Fri, 01/18/2019 - 10:30amJump Rope for Heart is now known as the Kids Heart Challenge. It will be held on Feb 14th and Feb 15th based on the half day schedule. In the event, if we are closed due to weather event, it will be held during the regular PE classes. All students are included even if they are not able to raise the funds or if they do not know how to jump. There are three ways to donate: a) online- at heart.org/kidsheartchallenge (info on how to do this is on the site, b) check--made payable to the American Heart Association and c) cash- no pennies please. For the online donations-the online donation report must be included in the donation envelope before the donations are sent. The donation envelopes will be sent out the week of Jan 29th in the Wednesday folder. For students raising monies early, their character gifts will given when their donation gifts arrive. In order to participate successfully, students need to wear sneakers or rubber soled shoes-no heels or boots.
